6 Connecting the servo controller to the computer

In your kit there should be the following items:

  • a differential drive robot
  • an Advanced Servo Controller (circuit board in a clear plastic case)
  • a power adapter
  • a USB cable
  • a DB9 cable

6.1 Setting up the Advanced Servo Controller

Start with the Advanced Servo Controller and connect the cables to the controller as shown below:

Connect the USB cable to the controller and the computer.

Connect the power adapter to the controller and an electrical outlet.

Connect the DB9 cable to the controller and to the robot.

6.2 Initializing the Advanced Servo Controller

In MATLAB, make sure that you are in the directory /home/user/1011 and type the following into the Command Window:

advServoInit

If everything is connected properly then MATLAB should display the message:

Connected to an Advanced Servo device
