7 Connecting the pan-tilt platform to the computer

In your kit there should be the following items:

  • a pan-tilt platform with a USB webcam
  • an Advanced Servo Controller (circuit board in a clear plastic case)
  • a power adapter
  • a USB cable
  • a DB9 cable
  • a piece of paper with a black stripe

7.1 Setting up the Advanced Servo Controller

Start with the Advanced Servo Controller and connect the cables to the controller as shown below:

Connect the USB cable to the controller and the computer.

Connect the power adapter to the controller and an electrical outlet.

Connect the DB9 cable to the controller and to the pan-tilt platform.

7.2 Setting up the pan-tilt platform

Plug the USB webcam into the computer.

Open the webcam so that it forms an angle of approximately 90 degrees to its base:

In MATLAB, make sure that you are in the directory /home/user/1011 and type the following into the Command Window:

initPanTilt

If everything is connected properly then the pan-tilt platform should move positioning the camera in the default position.
