Welcome to the Summer School 2011 in Warsaw!  An equivalent to CSE4401 3.0 is available for credit to York students.

• Travel

  There are direct flights from Toronto to Warsaw by LOT Polish Airlines (code-share with Air Canada) and lots of connections via European hubs (London, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, etc.). You have to make your own travel arrangements. Canadian citizens do not need a visa if they visit Poland for less than three months. When you arrive in Warsaw, take a taxi directly to the hostel. (Note: we will try to arrange to have a few Polish students pick you up at the airport upon your arrival.)

• Campus

  The campus of Warsaw University of Technology is more like campus of U of T than York: it is spread downtown in many locations. The Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, where the courses will be taught is located at Plac Politechniki, next to the main administration building (an equivalent of our Ross Bldg.). You can get from your hostel to the department by public transport (bus 159) or by walking (15-20 minutes).

• Computer Facilities

  The use of computer facilities in the department is somewhat more restricted than at York: the labs are locked outside of scheduled classes. You will have access to them every day for about two hours which should be plenty of time to work on the class project. You are welcome to take and use your laptop to do the initial work on the project. There are lots of Internet cafes in downtown Warsaw if you are addicted to browsing.

• Accomodation

  The university hostels are fully booked at the moment.
  However, Mr. Karol Masluszczak - a representative of the WUT International Cooperation Office - will help you in finding an accommodation. He is in touch with some agencies offering accommodation in private houses. He estimates the cost of
  one month accommodation offered by these agencies to be around Euro 200.

• Cost of living

  Cost of living in Poland is somewhat lower than in Canada (food, in particular). Unless you are planning on going out every night, you will definitely spend less than you would in Canada.
