Grading instructions for Assignment 1: 1. Each question carries 4 points. For Q4, each part is worth 1 point. For Q5, the first direction will get you full points. The second direction (done correctly) will get you 2 extra credit points. 2. Points will not be deducted if you have not shown *all* the intermediate steps as in the solutions published. However, it is in your own advantage to show intermediate steps, since you can get partial credit if your steps are correct but your final solution is wrong. 3. Some books use different notation and slightly different definitions (e.g. Natural numbers starting with zero). Since neither the instructor nor the TA has read every textbook on the subject, it is your responsibility to include any results (and sources) that you make use of. 4. In general, the TA will give you partial credit for incorrect solutions as long as she feels your basic approach was correct and/or you were on the right track.
