The required textbook for this course is Concepts of Programming Languages, Ninth Edition, by Robert W. Sebesta. Please buy the textbook as soon as possible and please bring it with you to every class. We will refer to it often.
By now you should have bought the textbook and read Chapter 1. When you have completed Chapter 1 please proceed to Chapter 2. These two chapters should be easy for you to read on your own.
Please click here for more information about the textbook.
We will also make frequent use of the following reference book: The Java Language Specification, Third Edition, by James Gosling, Bill Joy, Guy Steele, and Gilad Bracha. This is the only book on Java that contains the definition of the Java 5 programming language. This book is available from many bookstores and may be ordered over the internet. It is also available, without charge, on the web at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/. However, it is recommended that you purchase a copy of the book since that is the more practical format.
We will soon need Chapters 1 - 3 and 18 of this book. Please purchase this reference book or download these four chapters right away.
Please click here for more information about the reference book.
Class is cancelled for one day only: Monday, September 28, 2009.
