Lecture Notes
Any overheads/slides that I use in lectures will appear here, a day or so
after the class. They are in PDF 6-up format (6 slides per page).
The files are accessible only from machines within York University! If you
need access to the lecture notes from machines outside the department
log in via 'ssh indigo.cse.yorku.ca' (see
http://www.cse.yorku.ca/ssh)
and use either 'lynx <URL>' (a text browser) or
'wget <URL>' to download the file to your
directory on our systems. Then retrieve the file via ftp. For
details on these commands please refer to the respective man-pages.
Do not re-publish the slides on the WWW!

Additional Resources
- Papers should be written using the
ACM CHI paper template, which
is available for the most common text editing systems.
Furthermore, it is helpful to know that there is an on-line version of
the textbook The Elements of Style.
- Papers from ACM conferences such as
SIGCHI,
UIST, CSCW, GROUP
can be accessed via the ACM
Digital Library, which contains also
a good bibliography.
- There is also the
ECSCW
conference series.
- You can find many HCI papers via the
HCI bibliography,
Citeseer,
or Google Scholar.
- Please consult also my
Resources for
Research (only accessible from within York). There is lot's of
information about literature searches, performing user studies,
analyzing data, writing good papers, general observations and even
a link to jobs.

Ethics Forms
You need to fill out "Human Participants Research Protocol (TD2)" as well as "Appendix B: Informed Consent Checklist for Researchers (TD3)". Both of these are available in Word & PDF formats at the York FGS Human Participants Research Procedures WWW page. A template for the informed consent form is also available.
