Assignments
The 3 assignments will involve the design and implementation of database topics discussed in the course. At least one (usually more) of the assignments involves working with a relational database using the DB2 software on Prism. Assignments will be the work of individual students, unless specified otherwise. York University's rules for academic honesty and plagiarism always remain in effect. Discussion is fine on the assignments. However, collaboration is not.
It is imperative that you submit your assignments by the due date/time. If you miss the due date/time, but submit it within 24 hours after it is due, there will be a 20% deduction of your score as late penalty (e.g. If your original score is 80, you will end up getting 64). No assignment will be accepted after that under any circumstances. If you miss an assignment for documented valid reason (e.g. illness with a medical note), then upon the approval of your instructor the weight of that assignment will be transferred to the final exam.
Midterm exam
If you miss the midterm for documented valid reason (e.g. illness with a medical note), the weight of your midterm exam will be transferred to your final exam (i.e. your final exam will count for 85% of the final course mark).
Final exam
If you miss the final exam you will have to petition for a deferred exam. Provided that your petition is approved, you will take the final exam at a later date. It is not unusual that the deferred exam is scheduled together with the final exam of the next time that the course is offered.
