Feb 11, 2009 – Here is my EndNote template for CHI-formatted papers (ACM-CHI.zip).  It works with EndNote 4.0.  No guarantees on it working with other versions of EndNote

Feb 11, 2009 – Here are the slides from today's class: One Key Challenge.

Feb 9, 2009 – I just updated the slides for the Keystroke-Level Model presentation.  Just click below.  You might need to click "refresh" on your browser.

Feb 4, 2009 – Here are the slides from today's class, Keystroke-Level Model.

Jan 29, 2009 – Hello 6329 students.  All indications are that the classes will resume Monday (Tuesday for us).  I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to getting back into it and finishing up all the exciting things we were working on before the strike.

Just to give you a heads up on the assignments.  Don't worry about the "Draft Paper".  The weighting for the Draft Paper will be added to the Final Paper, which will be due approximately at the end of classes.  Good luck.  See you Monday – hopefully!

Nov 11, 2008 – All deadlines for this course (and other courses) are suspended, pending resolution of the current strike.  If you are seriously thinking of finishing up you project in order to submit your work for publication, then by all means, carry on.  Good luck. --Scott

Nov 5, 2008 – Here are the slides from today's class (Model of Two Thumb Text Entry).

Nov 3, 2008 – Requirements for draft research paper now posted.  See the main course web page, or click here.

Nov 3, 2008 – Marks for midterm exam now posted.  To view your mark, log on to Prism and issue the command courseInfo 6329

Oct 15, 2008 – Here are the slides for topic #3 (03-ModelingInteraction.pdf).

Oct 10, 2008 – Seems the new Blackberry Storm uses an idea first implemented 10 years ago by myself and Aleks Oniszczak (one of our MSc grads): http://www.touchusability.com/.  The article includes a link to our paper describing our prototype, the theory underlying it, and an empirical evaluation of it.  I've got the prototype in my office, in case anyone would like to have a look at it.  This is quite relevant to our current discussion on modeling.

Oct 6, 2008 – Here are the slides for topic #2 (02-WritingAResearchPaper.pdf).

Oct 6, 2008 – Wednesday's class will be held in Lumbers 340.

Sept 29, 2008 – Here is the spreadsheet containing the data and results of the class-time exercise from last Wednesday (NotebookUsage-results.xls).

Sept 25, 2008 – Re the class-time exercise from yesterday, here are the handout sheet (NotebookUsage-handout.doc) and the data (temp.xls).  The spreadsheet contains the raw data that each of you collected, as well as a worksheet with the totals.  I'll provide a more detailed spreadsheet next week.  However, before we meet, I'd like you to poke around the data and see what you make of it.  In particular, please try to answer the following three questions, with your answers supported by a significance test:

  1. Of the students sampled, are males or females more likely to own a notebook computer?
  2. Of those who own notebook computers, are males or females more likely to own a PC vs. a Mac?
  3. Of those who own notebook computers, are science students or arts students more likely to own a PC vs. a Mac? (Consider "arts" to mean Arts or Fine Arts.)

Sept 24, 2008 – Re the Edinburgh Handedness Inventory we completed in class today, here are the handout sheet (EdinburghHandednessInventory.doc) and the results (EdinburghHandednessInventory-results-6329-f08.xls).

Sept 21, 2008 – Here are the slides for topic #1 (01-EmpiricalResearch.pdf) as well as the files for the Anova application demo'd in class (anova.zip).

Sept 18, 2008 – Re the simple experiment we did in class yesterday, here are the handout sheets (SimpleExperiment-procedure.doc) and results (SimpleExperiment-results-6329-f08.xls).  We'll discuss the results in class on Monday.

Sept 15, 2008 – Two things….

·         Looks like we've been officially assigned CSE2002 as the room from the course

·         Re last Wednesday's class time exercise on nominal data coding and counting, here are the handout sheet (MobilePhoneUsage-handout.doc) and the results (MobilePhoneUsage-results.xls).  We'll discuss the results in class today.

Aug 25, 2008 – 6329 web page up and running.  Look here for announcements, downloads, etc.
