Feb 27, 2007 As mentioned in class today, I am traveling to a conference and will not be present for the midterm on Thursday or for next Tuesday's lecture on Chapter 7, Design Rules. Steven Castellucci will be giving the exam and, as well, the lecture on Design Rules. Since I will be away, I will also not be available during my office hours this Thursday or next Tuesday.

Feb 5, 2007 There was a problem with the "submit" command for submissions of Assignment 1. Sorry about that. I'll be giving an extension, but would still like everyone to submit their assignments using the submit command (as opposed to email attachments). Please watch here for further instructions.
Feb 1, 2007 A question was raised today about the proper way to format citations and references. As I mentioned, you can look in ACM conference papers to see how it is done. Click here to see a recent paper of mine in an ACM-sponsored conference. Please use this as an example of the formatting for citations and references.

Jan 11, 2007 Here are the slides for Chapter 1, The Human (01.pdf). Note that I added a URL on slide 42 to a paper of mine that uses analogy or metaphor in the design of a new interaction technique.
Jan 4, 2007 The measure of handedness noted in class today is called the "Edinburgh Inventory". It rates handedness from 100 for strong left-handedness to +100 for strong right-handedness. It was first proposed by R. C. Oldfield in 1971. A Google search will produce more information, if you are interested. Does "colour blindness" (discussed briefly in the text on page 18), like handedness, exist in a continuum? Is there a measure of such? I'm not sure, but perhaps you can investigate this further.
